About
Welcome! I’m Michael Romero. My professional sphere encompasses roles as a Site Reliability, Systems, and DevOps Engineer and Architect. My enthusiasm lies in unraveling the intricacies of complex systems.
In my enterprise homelab, my world revolves around experimenting with GitOps, crafting applications, exploring AI technologies, and managing servers for community gaming and personal connections. My engagement with technology is driven by a quest for efficiency and reliability in systems.
I firmly believe that to excel as an architect in reliability, one must extend their knowledge beyond just technology. My interests are diverse, ranging from art and literature to mechanical engineering and road construction techniques, understanding that software and hardware can draw significant insights from these traditional domains. My reading list is as varied as my interests, encompassing topics like software development, science, global affairs, and engineering, along with a rich selection of fiction and non-fiction literature.
Education for me has been a journey without traditional borders. While I don’t hold a formal degree, my educational experiences include studies at BYU Idaho and Western Governors University in Computer Science, Salt Lake Community College in Shipping Logistics, and training in Foreign Relations and Leadership with the United States Army. I see the world as a vast classroom, valuing the demonstration of learned skills over the origin of academic credentials.
In terms of achievements, I’ve been instrumental in establishing several Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) teams, educating peers on SRE principles, and executing numerous cloud migration projects. Beyond my professional realm, I have served as a Korean Linguist for the US, embarked on a service mission to South Korea, and contributed as a board member for the MS Society’s MS 150 Bike Tour in Utah. Additionally, I’m a skilled Photographer and Videographer, an avid Outdoorsman and Mountaineer, and a dedicated cyclist.
